Solar Thermal Workshops

Last Fall, one of the winners in the London Community Foundation‘s Clean Air Challenge was an education campaign about Solar Thermal. Here’s a video of the presentation:

The educational workshops are now about to begin:

April 14th; Richards Memorial Church; 7-9:30 pm

Overview of how solar energy is converted into hot water for domestic use. Experts in the field will review general theory for different systems and provide information relevant to homeowners. In addition, a panel of homeowners will give their personal stories.

April 16th

Organized trip to Waterloo to attend special event involving retrofit site visit and series of workshops. Departure 9am sharp. Please be at NW corner of Masonville Mall parking lot close to transit terminal. Waterloo retrofit tour is arranged for 10:30 am.

May 4th; Richards Memorial Church; 7-9:30 pm

More technical in scope – Workshop covers getting solar ready, maintenance, contracts, trouble shooting, costing (how much time is involved and the benefits of external detailing). Discussions will address information not found typically on the internet.

June 18th; ReForest; 9:00am – 3:30pm (BBQ 4pm-7pm)

Location – ReForest London office (on the grounds of Parkwood Hospital – See map on PCL poster on website). The morning will involve a put-together session of a solar panel. The rest of the day we will observe the installation and balancing of the new system. Discussion will include maintenance aspects. The day will conclude with a low carbon BBQ for all participants.

October 19th; Richards Memorial Church; 7-9:30 pm

Evening will consist of a launch of a broad range of 5 minute film clips prepared for You Tube over the course of this workshop series. A final panel session (with a range of guests from different disciplines) will discuss regional needs for the future advancement of solar water heating.
